Many first time homebuyers assume that buying a home is pretty easy for as long as you have the budget for it. This is actually true for as long as you are familiar with the home buying process. This procedure can be complex, which can be overwhelming and stressful to say the least. As a real estate agent, it is my job to make things easier for you and that is why you need a realtor. Here are some tips that I have that you might want to check out if you’re looking for a new house.
How Long It Takes
Searching for a new home can take time. A typical home search usually takes about 3 to 4 months. This already includes the loan approval process, assessment of properties and its home value, making an offer, inspections, and closing.
Getting Approved
This is one of the most commonly asked questions for first-time buyers—how can you get approved? Everyone needs to go through this process. If you’re a buyer, make sure that your finances are completely under control. Start organizing it by listing your monthly expenses and current income. Make the necessary changes to ensure that you stay within your budget.

Also, you would need to prepare some documents that are prerequisite to getting approved. These are W-2 forms, income tax returns for the last two years, most recent pay stubs, bank statements for the past two months, and credit report. If you have alimony or child support, make sure to include those documents too.
Know What You Want
Properties in Northern Virginia are quite diverse. From high rise condominiums to white picket fenced houses, you can find it all in the metro. I often ask my clients about their preferences or specific features that they would want in a home. How many bedrooms? How many bathrooms? What about the lot size and parking?
